Welcome to the museum of the night,
the bedroom of my cuddly toys!
The nocturnal animals come to life
while the world is asleep
and everything is at rest.
Everyone is tired,
the alarm clock slows down,
the cupboard nods off,
the bed dozes,
the light is spent,
the sun has gone down,
the room slumbers,
I lie in the dark.
And yet I’m awake, my eyes open and I want to get up.
All my cuddly toys are awake and they want to be up and about too. They want to come with me on an adventurous journey through the shadowy night to the land of dreams.
Nocturama is a dreamy music theatre production featuring sighing figures and poetic whispers. Cello, clarinet and voice take you off into the world of sleep and wakefulness.
With Nocturama Theater De Spiegel and HERMESensemble explore the possibilities of contemporary music for the very young ones . For this production, a tailored modular composition has been conceived by Daan Janssens for cello, (bass) clarinet and vocals. The inspiration came from the night in all its forms; the silence, the ‘colour’ of darkness, the fear that unidentified sounds can provoke, the static of the baby phone whilst hoping that the little one sleeps soundly…
